Our compost bin has an octagonal lid so I had to cut the filter to fit. It was a little difficult to cut because it's so thick - but that is a good thing. So far it has worked very well to contain the odors and keep the fruit flies away. We did not use the included adhesive pad because the filter fits inside the lid perfectly.
