Three Silkscreens
Born in White Cone, Arizona in 1914 Begay created paintings in tempura, watercolor/gouache and acrylics of Navajo figures and other reservation scenes. He attended Fort Wingate Indian School in New Mexico and in 1939 graduated from Sante Fe Indian School. He served in the Army in World War II. After the war he began exhibiting his art work in 1946 and worked full time as an artist. In the 1950's Begay and others established Tewa Enterprises in Sante Fe, New Mexico to make and sell reproductions of their work. This was one of the first American Indian owned art reproduction businesses. These are Tewa pieces from this period. They are handmade silkscreens.
